Rockville on the envelope, county on the street
A lot of North Bethesda mail goes to a Rockville address, especially in the 20852 ZIP code. Most of those homes are not in the City of Rockville at all. They are in unincorporated Montgomery County, and that decides who you deal with if the dumpster cannot go on your driveway.
- Driveway or private lot: no county permit.
- A county street: a dumpster permit from the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services, plus cones or reflectors around the container. The county says to allow one to two weeks. We do not supply the cones, so line them up before delivery day.
- Inside the City of Rockville limits: the city's own right-of-way permit instead. Our Rockville page explains that one.
- Garrett Park: a separate incorporated town in the middle of North Bethesda, with its own permits. Call the town office at 301-933-7488 before you book.
Rockville Pike (MD 355), Old Georgetown Road (MD 187), and Strathmore Avenue (MD 547) are state roads. A side street or your driveway is the answer there.

Two kinds of North Bethesda jobs
The neighborhoods. Luxmanor, Garrett Park Estates, White Flint Park, Randolph Hills, Tilden Woods, and Windermere are mostly detached homes and townhouses built between the late 1950s and the 1990s. Driveways are the norm, and the jobs are what you would expect in houses that age: kitchens, baths, basements, and cleanouts before a sale. The 15 and 20 yard do most of the work. In townhouse communities such as the Crest of Wickford and Fallstone, the association usually decides where a container can sit, so ask them first.
The Pike District. Around the three Metro stations (Twinbrook, North Bethesda, and Grosvenor-Strathmore), the county has planned thousands of new homes, and a lot of the building around the old White Flint Mall site is high-rise and mixed-use. For a unit renovation or a tenant build-out in a building, the property manager controls the loading dock and the hours. Get their rules in writing and send them to us. We schedule around them.

- Measure the spot. A 10 yard is 14 by 8 feet. The 15, 20, and 25 are 16 by 8. The 30 is 18 by 8.
- Check overhead. The truck tilts the container to roll it off, so it needs clear air above the drop spot.

Only if the dumpster goes on the street, and then it depends on who owns the street. Most 20852 addresses are in unincorporated county, so a street placement needs a county dumpster permit. If you are inside the City of Rockville limits, the city issues it. A driveway needs neither.
